Australian MotoGP 2014

Phillip Island GP Circuit

The final round of the championship was to be held in conjunction with MotoGP.

Daniel entered the round with a recently broken collarbone and just a 2 point lead in the championship.

The weekend started well arriving at Phillip Island to catch the current MotoGP World Champion, Marc Marquez, strolling down the main street.

Due to the extra international teams, garage space was tight with an area only 1.5m wide allocated to Australian teams.

Previously the largest crowd Daniel had ridden in front of reached 4000 - 5000 people. This weekend, over 40,000 spectators would roll through the gates to watch the racing providing exposure we had not experienced before.

Daniel broke his collarbone in a testing accident just 4 weeks ago. After surgery, he entered this race meeting with a titanium plate holding his collarbone together. We were unsure whether it would be strong enough to last a full race.

Daniel was asked to attend the autograph session with other Australian racing champions on Saturday afternoon.

Heading into the final race of the championship, Daniel only needs a 7th place finish to take 1st place and seal the crown. Despite drilling this into Daniel’s head before the race, he decided to put on a show for the crowd and battle for 1st place. The race was the closest of the weekend as Daniel and Aaron Morris crossed the line within 0.005 seconds of one another. Daniel takes the win in Race 3.

The Jon Daniels Racing Team secure their 5th National Championships in 6 years. An unbelievable achievement.
